Caught with hands in the cookie jar (or in this case with the bread)

Someone had complained to my boss that I collected bribes when I performed my duties in the field. That morning I had to visit a bakery to investigate a complaint that workers at the bakery were not provided with a weekly day of rest as the bakery was operational on 7 days of the week.

When I interviewed the employer and employees it was confirmed that the bakery was operational seven days of the week but workers were given rest days on a rotation basis. The employers’ rest day records and interviews with the employees confirmed that the employees indeed worked on Sundays but were provided with weekly days of rest on other days of the week.

The employer was found to have a record that confirmed the employees had their rest days on a rotational basis. At the end of my visit the employer handed me two loaves of bread being the products from the bakery. I refused saying I was a bachelor which I was then, and two loaves could rot in my home. He was insistent that I take them despite my protests. He left me no choice and I dumped them in my scooter bag. On reaching home I was surprised to see three Malays who looked like Government employees. When I alighted from my scooter they approached me, identified themselves as Officers from the Anti-Corruption Agency, and asked if they could search my pockets. I was a poor government employee, had nothing to hide and obliged by raising my arms to enable them to search me. They were obviously disappointed as they could not locate any incriminating evidence on me. One of the Officers looked at the packet of loaves in my scooter bag, smiled thinking nothing can escape his sharp eyes and trained investigative mind. He opened it and was utterly disappointed; they were indeed loaves of bread and no money. I offered it to them saying these were what was given to me by the bakery. They refused it, apologised for the search and went on their way cursing the anonymous complainant who sent them on a wild goose chase.

My first car

After my Higher School Certificate examination, I was appointed as a labour officer. This job paid well enough that I could finally afford a car for work. It involved a fair amount of travelling, the allowances for which could well cover my petrol bills. This first car was a second hand Volkswagen 1200, reg. AF 1085 in white. Pigeons always look for variety

One of my female pigeons left her nest and moved over to my neighbors pigeon Coop where she had taken a fancy for a male pigeon. I spoke to my neighbor and told him I shall trap my pigeon later that evening. But my neighbor like a budding lawyer told me “possession is 9/10th” of the law and since the pigeon was in his coop it is rightfully his. Now when I feed my pigeons I usually give a loud whistle for them to attend to their food. I told my brother to spray some green peas on the ground. My house was about 5 houses away from my neighbors where my pigeon had sought refuge with her boyfriend. When I gave a whistle my pigeon with 3 other pigeons left my neighbors coop to peck food at my coop. The neighbor was stunned seeing his 3 pigeons heading to my house. SENIOR CITIZENS AND THE QR CODE

Age is certainly catching up for me and my friends of my generation. Technology is moving fast and I find we are no longer able to fit into the fast paced modern age. The other day Ben, my friend and I set out to Bukit Damansara to meet up with an Investment banker. Both of us are retirees. I am in the 80's while Ben is a lot younger.
